Oscar Race: In It To Win
Maggie Gyllenhaal with fellow nominee Jeff Bridges in CRAZY HEART

"It's an honor to be nominated" is what you'll hear every year from Academy Award nominees including this year's most talked about category for Best Actress between Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) and Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia)  but one actress who's not afraid to say she wants the golden statue is Crazy Heart's Best Supporting Actress nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Actors have always been careful not to seem overeager about awards but Jeff Bridges' Crazy Heart co-star admitted during a Crazy Heart press event late 2009 that she welcomes the chance to hold an award.   "There are people who don't want awards or who don't care.  I'll take one," said the Batman: Dark Knight actress.

INTERVIEW: Jeff Bridges On Surviving Hollywood

While Maggie's fellow nominees Penelop Cruz (Nine), Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air), Anna Kendrick, Mo'Nique may not  say outright they want the win, Jake Gyllenhaal's older sister isn't shy about admitting awards mean many things. The first-time Academy Award nominee is no stranger to critical acclaim when she received numerous accolades for her breakthrough role in Secretary.  "When it happened to me with Secretary, I kinda thought this 'means I'm good.'  I know that's not what it means .  I know it means a lot of complicated things."

Coming from a Hollywood family and married to actor Peter Sarsgaard, Maggie Gyllenhaal  doesn't sit around the dinner table talking awards and showbiz with her loved ones including brother Jake Gyllenhaal.  "We try not to talk about that stuff too much.  My husband has a great way of thinking about it.  Peter says its kinda like gambling.  You kinda have your money on a horse."

While the odds on favorite for the Best Supporting Actress is on Precious' Mo'Nique, Maggie says its "nice to say you're on the list," but she doesn't fret over whether she'll win or not because it'll drive her "crazy,"  but she'll be more than happy to "take them" when the time comes.

Maggie doesn't have to wait long for that moment when the winner for the Best Supporting Actress is announced during the Academy Awards Sunday, March 7th on ABC starting 5pm/4pm PST.
