Interview: Pixar's 'Coco' Stars Angelica Vale and Angelica Maria Cried Even Before Movie Started

Mother/daughter duo Angelica Vale and Angelica Maria voice roles in the Spanish version of the Disney Pixar movie which is out now on iTunes, Amazon Video, 4K, Blu-ray and DVD. The legendary Mexican actresses sat down with CineMovie's Valentina Patruno in Miami to talk about what made them cry even before the movie started and what it means to voice characters in the beloved animated film that's sure to become a classic. Disney*Pixar's COCO opened both the English and Spanish version of the film in the United States when it was released theatrically last year. Now both versions comes to home release for families to enjoy in both languages. COCO is up for Best Animated Feature at this year's Academy Awards, and the two Angelicas are rooting for the film to win Sunday night.
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history. Directed by Lee Unkrich (“Toy Story 3”), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist “Monsters University”) and produced by Darla K. Anderson (“Toy Story 3”).
In the interview, Angelica Vale reveals she actually went in to audition for the same role but the English version. She didn't realize then it was an older character so she used her natural voice. It wasn't until she was reading for dialogue for the Spanish version that she realized it was the same role.
