PREY director Dan Trachtenberg expands the Predator lore once again with PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS, a Hulu original animated anthology film. Featuring three brutal and inventive stories, the film builds toward a climactic showdown against the galaxy’s most feared hunters. If you enjoyed PREY, this follow-up cranks up the intensity with even more blood-soaked action, including a stunning aerial dogfight between a WWII pilot and a Predator spacecraft.
The Story
A Viking raider, a samurai, and a World War II pilot each encounter a different Predator during their respective eras in history. Armed only with their time-appropriate, primitive weapons, they must face the technologically advanced alien in a desperate fight for survival.
The screenplay by Micho Robert Rulare and story by Trachtenberg enrich the Predator mythology, suggesting that the alien hunters have visited Earth for centuries to collect trophies. Sharp-eyed fans may notice one of the relics hinted at in a previous installment, adding to the continuity.
The Action
The battles are fierce and unforgiving. Imagine a Viking going head-to-head with a Predator, or a samurai in feudal Japan using his deadly skills to survive the encounter. The WWII pilot’s midair confrontation adds a new layer to the franchise’s action repertoire. Each chapter delivers its own intense combat and culminates in a satisfying and explosive final showdown.
The Animation
While the anime-style animation may initially feel unfamiliar, it proves to be an ideal medium for these hyper-violent, imaginative stories. The stylized visuals enhance the gore and fantasy elements in ways that live-action never could.
Storytelling and Direction
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg with Josh Wassung of The Third Floor as co-director, KILLER OF KILLERS pushes the franchise into exciting new territory. Trachtenberg has a clear understanding of what makes the Predator concept so compelling, using past hints to expand the alien mythology in bold ways. The film ends with a jaw-dropping reveal that continues to deepen the lore.
PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS is a gritty, bloody, and exhilarating addition to the franchise — a wild ride that’s absolutely worth more than one viewing.
