We can now add another family friendly robot with Chappie starring Dev Patel and Hugh Jackman.  Here are 10 other love stories between a human and a robot in television and movie history that count among our favorites.

10. Transformers Movies (2007)

A robot and boy are one in the same in this Steven Spielberg film. This robotic boy played by Haley Joel Osment is rejected by his human parent, and sets out to become a “real” boy in the Steven Spielberg film. The movie is a bit of a bummer, but its definitely a tear-jerker like the rest of them.

Like AI, this is a boy and a robot in one in this animated tale based on Japanese manga series. Astro Boy is an android robot created in the image of a scientist’s dead son. Rejected by his father/creator, Astro Boy embarks on a  journey to find himself and becomes a superhero.

5. Lost in Space (1965)

Instead of a family dog or cat, this TV family's pet is a robot named Robby the robot a guardian to Will Robinson whose family is stranded on a planet. "Danger, Will Robinson!" was the 7-foot robot's catchphrase when his young human friend faced imminent threats. Robby the Robot first appeared in the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, and adapted for other science fiction movies and television programs.
