Victoria-Alonso-Marvel-Studios-interview

How often do you get to visit Marvel Studios in Los Angeles? CineMovie got a rare chance to go inside Marvel Studios and talk to THE AVENGERS Executive Producer Victoria Alonso.

The Latina Marvel executive gave CineMovie some insight into the workings at Marvel Studios and on juggling so many franchises simultaneously.  The Argentinian-born executive is in charge of visual effects, sound post production, and stereo conversion.  She wears many hats at Marvel and works on two to four films at a time.  Her involvement in Marvel films begins in pre-production and not just in post production.  Alonso started her career as a visual effects producer, working on Shrek, The 6th Day, Darkness Falls, and Cats & Dogs.  She tells us it took "a long to get to her position."

In CineMovie's sit down with the Marvel Studios executive in the El Segundo offices, Alonso revealed which scenes in THE AVENGERS proved the most difficult.  The Bruce Banner/Hulk transformation has always been the most scrutinized effect in past movies so Marvel made sure the transition from a human character to a CGI monster was done correctly.  Another special effects scene took almost one year to complete, according to Alonso. When the Avengers assemble on the bridge to fight the invading alien race and the the Leviathon monster, Alonso explains the 360 degree shot was very complicated to achieve.

Victoria Alonso is currently working on many sequels with Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and a Captain America sequel in the works. She tells us at Marvel they balance the multiple films in a "fair way" and the film closest to production will get "their undivided attention."  She does admit it becomes a "struggle" juggling many projects but overall they do "pretty well" at evenly distributing their time on all their projects.

As one of the few Latinas and female executives, Victoria says she is treated equally and the Marvel group is by far the best company of men she has worked with.

THE AVENGERS is in movie theaters May 4, 2012.
