Katy Perry Inspired by Slain Tejano Singer Selena

Katy Perry chronicles her life from dreamy-eyed girl to worldwide pop star in her 3D documentary concert film KATY PERRY: PART OF ME movie. One of her life changing moments was when she saw a young Selena accepting her first Grammy's award.

According to Katy Perry's Facebook page, when Perry was in fourth grade in 1993, her school assignment called for a collage of image to post on the "vision board" representing students dreams and aspirations. That same year, the regional Tejano singer Selena took home a Grammy award for Best Mexican-American Album at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards for her album Selena Live!

The nine-year-old featured the photo of Selena holding her Grammy to represent her future aspirations on the vision board. Kate Perry's dreams came true by 2008 when she began to make a name for herself and a global sensation.
