In the world of Bunraku, there are no guns. When a mysterious drifter (Hartnett) arrives in a strange town ruled by Nicola (Ron Perlman) and his army of thugs and nine deadly assassins, he enlists the help of a young samurai and a bartender (Harrelson) to overthrow the tyrannical Nicola.
