Jennifer Grey is set to reprise her iconic role as Frances “Baby” Houseman in a Dirty Dancing sequel with Lionsgate producing along with Grey, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games, Crazy Rich Asians).
Lionsgate is officially moving forward with its highly anticipated Dirty Dancing sequel, bringing together an all-star team behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
Grey will also serve as an executive producer alongside Jonathan Levine. The studio is currently eyeing a production start later this year.
The screenplay will be penned by Kim Rosenstock, the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated writer behind Hulu’s Dying for Sex and a former writer-producer on Only Murders in the Building, GLOW, and New Girl.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson praised the creative team, calling Dirty Dancing “as beloved today as it was upon its initial release,” and emphasized the studio’s goal of delivering a theatrical experience that honors the original while introducing its magic to new audiences.
Grey described returning to the role of Baby as deeply personal, saying she’s long wondered where the character might be years later and is thrilled to finally explore that journey with the right collaborators in place.
Originally released in 1987, Dirty Dancing became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its unforgettable music, romance, and rebellious spirit. With its original star returning and powerhouse producers guiding the sequel, Lionsgate is inviting fans back to Kellerman’s for one more dance.
