Wednesday Warner Bros. announced WONDER WOMAN 1984 will be coming to HBO Max on the same day as the release of the DCEU movie in theaters. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot tweeted out the reasoning behind the huge announcement.
Many expected the studio to make a big announcement given the Christmas release date is just around the corner, and the COVID-19 pandemic is out of control in the United States. WONDER WOMAN isn't the first major film sent to a digital platform, and the move may help drive new subscribers to WB's fledgeling HBO MAX like Disney did with Disney+.
Jenkins and Gadot offered their own reasoning on Twiiter, hoping to bring joy to the world with their film on Chistmas Day instead of moving the movie for a fourth time. They hope fans can enjoy it in a movie theater safely if open or at home if that is not an option. See their tweets below.
