Movie Review: 'I’ll Be Right There' Starring Edie Falco

Edie Falco movie Ill Be Right There 2024

Edie Falco is empty-nester Wanda, a divorced mother of two needy adult children in I’LL BE RIGHT THERE. Falco delivers a very grounded portrayal of a mother who doesn't know when to quit mothering.

Wanda's children may be out of the house, but she's at the beck and call of her 8-month pregnant daughter Sarah (Kayli Carter), Mark (Ozark's Charlie Tahan), a wayward and recovering addict, and a mother (Jeannie Berlin) who thinks she's dying. Wanda's love life is just as complicated with a long-time boyfriend (Michael Rapaport) and a secret new girlfriend.

Directed by Brendan Walsh (Nurse Jackie, Power Book II) and written by Jim Beggarly, I’LL BE RIGHT THERE is a grounded story with interesting characters and Falco dominates every scene. Falco doesn't come off as an overbearing mother but as a likable and flawed character who doesn't realize the damage she's causing Mark and Sarah by catering to their every need. At one point, Sarah blames their mother for not giving them the tools to cope with life's curveballs and eventually, we see Wanda's faults manifest in her children's irresponsible behaviors.

The supporting cast elevates Falco's performance especially Jeannie Berlin as Falco's mother who steals most of the scenes as the comedic relief.

I’LL BE RIGHT THERE's running time of 97 minutes, which feels right for this simple slice-of-life story.

Falco executive produces I’LL BE RIGHT THERE along with actor/producer Jesse Eisenberg.

I’LL BE RIGHT THERE is now playing in movie theaters.
