It Ends with Us starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni

During a trailer release party, IT ENDS WITH US author Colleen Hoover revealed her book fans were involved in the screenwriting phase. The author served as the Executive Producer and was involved in the adaptation starring Baldoni and Blake Lively as Lily Bloom. She explains why Justin Baldoni (Jane the Virgin) was the right filmmaker to bring her novel to the big screen.

Published in 2016, the IT ENDS WITH US novel has sold over one million copies worldwide. The story centers on Lily Bloom, a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood and opens a flower business. Lily falls for charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) but Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When her childhood love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), reappears in her life, things become more complicated.

Hoover revealed the story was influenced by her personal experience with her father's abuse of her mother.

A few dozen Colleen Hoover fans gathered at the Sony Studios in Los Angeles for a first look at the new trailer on May 6. Following the trailer, Hoover took questions from influencer fans.

Baldoni surprised the crowd after the Q&A. The two revealed that a handful of fans had a hand in crafting the cinematic adaptation. The script, written by Christy Hall, was shown to those fans and they provided notes. "Justin listened," Collen said of Justin's collaboration with book fans.

Baldoni also revealed that Hoover gave him notes on set. Hoover also has a cameo in the movie.

IT ENDS WITH US opens in movie theaters on August 9.
