Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu took home his second Director's Guild of America (DGA) Award two years straight for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film, this time for THE REVENANT. The win also marks the first time a director takes home the DGA Award back-to-back for Directorial Achievement. The Mexican filmmaker was quite emotional during his acceptance speech Saturday night when he gave a shout out to the Mexican workers in the kitchen who he says are not anything like what Donald Trump has described. He also mentioned his father and was deeply moved by the recognition. THE REVENANT star Leonardo DiCaprio was there for support.
Last year, Iñárritu took him the same prize for THE BIRDMAN in addition to taking top honors at most other award shows. His luck may be repeating in 2016 so we hope he's got plenty of shelf space. The next stop is the Oscars for the multi-award winning director, and the DGA Award winner always predicts the winner at the Academy Awards for Best Director.
