Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30: Minutes or Less) directs THE GANGSTER SQUAD based on the true story of the LAPD IN 1949 when a special squad was assigned to take out gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) and his thugs in Los Angeles. The secret police squad is headed by Josh Brolin's Sgt. John O'Mara with the help of rookie cop Ryan Gosling, but their job is not to bring the hardened criminals to justice. Instead, the group is charged with using violence to rid the city of its undesirables.
Who doesn't like long trench coats, guns, and Los Angeles circa 1950? Judging by the trailer, this is a sure fire hit with urban audiences who love violence a la Scarface and this preview promises to deliver big time.
THE GANGSTER SQUAD also stars Emma Stone who reteams with her Crazy, Stupid, Love co-star Ryan Gosling as lovers in the period action movie. Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick (Terminator: Judgement Day), Anthony Mackie (Real Steel), and Frank Grillo (The Grey, Warrior).
