Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton tackles the next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and a new trailer hints at a new direction under the filmmaker. The new preview reveals tons of new characters, some familiar, others new to the MCU.
SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man, with the story picking up four years after the events of No Way Home. Peter still longs for his best friend (Jacob Batalon) and gal pal (Zendaya) after Dr. Strange erased their memories.
While battling street-level villains, Peter is tackling some sort of transformation or third phase of a spider's life cycle. This storyline borrows from the comic book "transformation" arcs in The Other (2005), Six Arms Saga (1971), and Brand New Day (2008), in which Peter gains new powers, including retractable "stingers" on his wrists, like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner and Jon Bernthal's The Punisher join the fight this go around.
All the answers will be revealed on July 31 in movie theaters.
