Boxer Jose Benavidez Jr Showed 'Creed III' Costar Selenis Leyva The Ropes in Exchange for Acting Tips

Creed 3 movie Selenis Leyva, Jose Benavidez Jr. Michael B Jordan interview 850

CREED III's Selenis Leyva reveals the deal she made with costar and real-life boxer Jose Benavidez Jr. in his acting debut, and how she prepared for the role under the direction of new director Michael B. Jordan.

Leyva plays the momager to Creed's successor played Jose Benavidez Jr. but she didn't know much about boxing and Benavidez had never acted before. So they made a deal to show each other the ropes. The actress also chats with us about working with a first-time director.

CREED III is in movie theaters on March 3, and critics are praising Michael B. Jordan's directorial debut. Another standout is Selenis Leyva's (Lopez vs Lopez, Gordita Chronicles) performance as Laura, momager to Adonis' mentee played by Jose Benavidez Jr. When it comes to her son's boxing career, Laura doesn't pull the punches, and Leyva delivers an authentic character usually reserved for the males outside the ring.

The actress reveals how she formed the character and her impression of Jordan as a filmmaker.
