'Scream VI' Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett Change Up The Formula for Ghostface's NYC Debut

SCREAM VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett explain why this sequel was the right time to defy expectations and break horror movie rules. Watch what else the filmmakers had to say about changing up the franchise.

The directors broke through in Hollywood with READY OR NOT (2019), the highly-entertaining and quirky horror comedy. The unconventional storytelling from that movie made them the perfect choice to reboot the SCREAM franchise.  However, the filmmakers tell CineMovie that they took the same approach to the latest SCREAM movie rather than the previous entry. The duo explain the 2019 SCREAM had to be introduced to a new generation of audiences so they played it safe but for the sequel, they had more freedom to play with the formula.

SCREAM VI arrives in movie theaters on March 10.
