The Mandalorian and Grogu are headed to the big screen for their next adventure with production slated to begin in 2024. Lucasfilm and Disney announced Tuesday that Jon Favreau will direct THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU with Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Favreau serving as producers. The press release doesn't specify whether a fourth season of the hit Disney+ series will precede or follow, but most likely the movie will serve as the continuation of the story.

The STAR WARS news shouldn't come as a surprise given Pedro Pascal's rising star power and starring role in The Last of Us, among his other movies. Technically, Lucasfilm doesn't need Pascal in the flesh on set since stuntmen could fill his shoes in a suit, so his role could be relegated to only voicing Din Djarin. The news comes with concept art of Din Djarin carrying Grogu as they plummet from a burning spaceship.

Dave Filoni will still helm his own STAR WARS movie which was announced at this year's STAR WARS Celebration. That movie will be a culmination of the Disney+ series which could see Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin reunite for another adventure. The announcement also revealed that Dave Filoni's  Ahsoka series will start production on season 2.

The announcement also confirmed the James Mangold film, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey (Daisy Ridley) sequel are still on track.

The decision to take Mando and Grogu to the big screen makes business sense for the popular series which doesn't earn much as a streaming series, so it stands to make billions for Disney at the box office and in merchandise.
