The Goonies Reunite For New Treasure Hunt

When THE GOONIES say "Goonies Never Say Die" they meant it.  The 1985 film still resonates with new generations twenty-five years later and now the whole family can enjoy the action adventure film November 2 when THE GOONIES comes to Blu-ray and DVD.  GOONIES director Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon) and the cast reunited on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, CA to reminisce about the movie and help contestants on a scavenger hunt for $5000.
Warner Bros. hosted the 25th Anniversary party on the Hollywood studio with the stars of THE GOONIES, a LIVE Goonies Treasure Hunt, a private screening of THE GOONIES and a copy of the THE GOONIES DVD for the fans.  Goonie Corey Feldman ('Mouth'), Ke Huy Quan ('Data'), and Jeff Cohen ('Chunk') joined the party along with the film's villains played by Joey Pantoliano (The Matrix, The Sopranos) and Robert Davi.  Lupe Ontiveros (Selena, As Good As It Gets) was also there for the reunion along with Casting Director Mike Fenton.  Josh Brolin ('Brand') and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings series), the on screen brothers were missing from the celebration.

CineMovie caught up with the director and stars of THE GOONIES to talk about their favorite memory from the film.  The cast and director also revealed that talks of a sequel have been circulating since the film's release but it never came to fruition.  That didn't stop the actors from coming up with potential ideas.  Everyone agreed the story would pick up with the Goonies as adults with children of their who go on their own treasure hunt but would the film be able to recreate the innocence of the characters that made the film so lovable?  Richard Donner and casting director Mike Fenton were not sure they could replicate that innocence given today's access to information via the internet.  Corey Feldman disagreed and said that could be replicated in a modern day Goonies story.  What were there feelings on Hollywood remaking THE GOONIES?  While some may protest a remake of this classic story, Richard Donner said he would very much like to see it remade.  The cast were not as receptive to the idea.   

After meeting with the press, talent assisting contestants of the LIVE Goonies Treasure Hunt on the Warner lot. Three winning teams of four from The Goonies 25th Anniversary Great Treasure Hunt Sweepstakes were chosen from 25,000 entrants.  The contestants competed for a $5,000 grand prize with a scavenger hunt that had them running around the Warner lot in Warner go carts testing out their knowledge of THE GOONIES.  Jessica Vital beat out two male contestants for the grand prize of $5000.  Watch video from Treasure Hunt
