Laz Alonso sat down with CineMovie's Zay Zay to talk about how he prepared for his new role inSTRAW DOGS and why his Avatar director James Cameron taught him to pay attention to even the smallest details which he applies when researching his roles.

The former BET television host and "Breakout Kings" star is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and has played Dominican in Fast & Furious or African-American in Jump The Broom, Stomp the Yard, and even a blue alien in Avatar. Working with James Cameron on Avatar,Alonso learned a lot from the blockbuster filmmaker.

"James Cameron pays attention to every single detail. Nothing goes unaddressed."
Alonso feels his acting has greatly improved and "elevated" his work since working with the Titantic director.

To play a small town Sheriff in STRAW DOGS with James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, and "True Blood's" Alexander Skarsgard, Laz says he watched Youtube videos of American football quarterback Steve McNair to get the sound and rhythm of a resident from the deep South.

Alonso says if his characters all sound and behave the same way, he has not done his job.

You can catch Laz Alonso in STRAW DOGS in movie theatres September 16, 2011.
